Minister of Transport has held a meeting today with a number of the protesting workers to discuss their demands regarding transferring the supervision on the Public Transport Authority (PTA) from the Governorate of Cairo to the Ministry of Transport.
Tarek El Behery, spokesman of the Independent union of public transport workers, pointed out that the aim of the strike is not to hinder citizens from pursuing their responsibilities, rather to defend the legitimate right of the workers. He also explained that launching the strike at the beginning of the new academic year will put the officials under great pressure, given that the negotiations with Cairo Governor and PTA have failed.
He also emphasized that the strikes will continue until the workers’ demands are met. The demands include establishing a public transport agency in greater Cairo, separation from the Governorate of Cairo even if the Ministry of Transport rejected the merge, in addition to some some financial compensations.
