TUI opens bookings to Egypt starting September

Germany-based travel company TUI has on Friday allowed booking trips to Egypt starting from September, using its official website.

Bookings will be possible for hotels and resorts in Red Sea cities of Sharm el-Sheikh, Marsa Alam, and Hurghada.

TUI also said it expects travel between Egypt and Germany to resume by the end of August.

Germany is of great importance for Egyptian tourism, as it is one of the biggest the European markets in terms of the number of tourists arriving to Egypt. The German tourist is also characterised by high rates of spending.

On June 9, TUI has begun gradually reopening after a temporary closure due to the coronarvirus pandemic.

The German company explained in a statement that it opened 18 locations in the first stage, and on June 16, the number increased to 105 locations.

The demand for holiday travel has risen rapidly in recent days given the positive signs related to traveling abroad during summer vacation, TUI said.

People are either looking for summer holidays, or they are already looking for winter holidays, the statement added.

Friedrich Joussen, chief executive of TUI, said that summer 2020 programme bookings are already 35 percent sold out, adding that it was still possible to have more bookings when further countries reopen.

TUI is ready to resume operations from Germany once the borders are reopened, with holidays to the Balearic and Canary Islands, Greece, and Cyprus, as well as cruises in the North Sea likely to be available first, Joussen said.
