Turkey Summons Egypt’s Charge D’affaires

Turkey has summoned the Egyptian charge d’affaires Tuesday to express objection to the tone used by Egypt’s foreign ministry against the Turkish counterpart on Sunday, Al Ahram’s Arabic news website reported.

The Egyptian foreign ministry had summoned the Turkish charge d’affaires Monday to protest the sharp remarks Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan made about Egypt and its president.

On Friday Erdogan slammed Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi as a “tyrant” whose administration is “illegitimate,” while rebuking Cairo’s endeavours to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Islamist Hamas movement, who snubbed the agreement

Ties between Ankara and Cairo have soured since last year’s ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, which Erdogan has long supported.
