UAE Holds Activist for Tweeting Against Rulers

Ahmed Mansour -A prominent blogger in the United Arab Emirates- said that authorities have detained a political activist who criticized one of the Gulf country’s rulers in his Twitter account.

Mansour said also that federal state security agents took the activist, “Mohammed Abdulrazeq al-Siddiq”, into custody from his home in the emirate of Sharjah early Sunday.

The arrest is the latest move by the UAE to crack down on perceived political dissent in the oil-rich union of six city-states that includes Dubai, as the Associated press stated.

Three other people have been detained for postings on social media websites in the past weeks, but all are free on bail, including an online activist who faces anti-state charges in the state security court after commenting on Arab Spring uprisings in his Twitter posts.
