The United Arab Emirates (UAE) established three desalination plants in Egypt’s Rafah Crossing to supply the Gaza Strip with safe drinking water, Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said on Tuesday.
Egypt’s Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Nusseibeh, officially opened three water desalination plants in Rafah, in presence of a large gathering of UN Security Council members.
The water desalination plants are part of the UAE’s ‘Noble Knight 3’ humanitarian operations to help solve the disastrous water shortage in Gaza and to aid in providing more access to clean water to the Palestinians.
The new desalination plants are set to supply clean drinking water to 300,000 people by utilising a system of pipes to transport about 600,000 gallons of seawater through processing every day throughout the Gaza Strip.
