UAE Thumbay Group to build Gulf Medical University in Egypt

Founding member of the Emirati Thumbay Group Thumbay Moideen says he aims to establish in Egypt a branch of the UAE-based Gulf Medical University, with investments worth five billion Egyptian pounds ($279 million), a statement by Egyptian investment ministry said.

Thumbay Group, founded in 1998, is the largest healthcare provider in the UAE.

Moideen’s announcement came during a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, Executive Vice President of the Investment Authority Mohamed Abdel-Wahab, and head of the Gulf Medical University Hossam Hamdy.

The medical university is expected to be a part of an integrated medical city to be established by the group in Egypt, according to Moideen.

The project aims to enhance medical cooperation between the UAE and Egypt and create job opportunities and medical training for the youth.

Moideen highlighted that the Gulf medical school uses the most up-to-date technologies, training dummies, and medical equipment.

Founded in 1998, the Gulf Medical University in Ajman is one of the first private medical universities in the Middle East. It is owned and run by the Thumbay Group.

The Gulf Medical University focuses on medical education, healthcare and research. The university has infrastructure and facilities that are on par with international standards.

During the meeting, Moideen hailed the Egyptian government’s efforts in attracting foreign investments.
