UAE’s AMEA Power signs 300MW wind farm deal in Ethiopia
Ethiopia signed on Saturday a power purchase and a project implementation agreement with UAE’s AMEA Power to develop a 300-megawatt (MW) wind energy project. The Aysha-1 wind farm is set to be the largest in the Horn of Africa.
Under the agreement, AMEA Power will develop, own, and operate the wind farm through its subsidiary, AMENA Power Aysha Wind One PLC for $620 million.
The generated electricity will be sold to Ethiopian Electric Power under a 25-year contract.
Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide emphasised the project’s alignment with Ethiopia’s national energy policy, highlighting its contribution to green energy and energy diversification. He expressed confidence in the project’s adherence to international standards and its positive impact on sustainable development.
