The Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Energy, overseeing the South Andaman Gross Split PSC, announced a significant gas find from the Tangkulo-1 Exploration well in South Andaman, offshore North Sumatra, Indonesia, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM)
This marks their second deep-water operation following the Layaran-1 discovery. Tangkulo-1 penetrated an 80-metre gas column in a high-quality Oligocene sandstone reservoir, confirmed by extensive data collection.
Despite testing constraints, Tangkulo-1 flowed 47 mmscf/d of gas and 1,300 barrels of condensate, with estimated capacities of 80-100mmscf/d and over 2,000 barrels of condensate.
Mubadala Energy’s CEO, Mansoor Mohammed Al Hamed, hailed this discovery, alongside Layaran-1, as transformative for Indonesia’s energy landscape, underlining South Andaman’s global energy potential.
With an 80 per cent stake in South Andaman, Mubadala Energy holds the largest acreage in the area, aligning with its gas-focused strategy.
Tangkulo-1 represents a pivotal development in the block, unlocking additional gas resources and signalling further potential in nearby structures.
This discovery, coupled with Layaran-1, augments Mubadala Energy’s contingent volume, positioning them for sustained growth in the region.
