UK car production rose for a second straight month in July, up 5.6 per cent to 69,127 units, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said on Thursday.
Commercial vehicle (CV) output slumped 81.1 per cent, however, due to plant restructuring and a strong base last year, pulling total vehicle production down 10.8 per cent to 72,006 units.
Domestic and export car output grew 13.6 per cent and 3.7 per cent, respectively, with 79.4 per cent of vehicles shipped overseas. The EU remained the top export destination, taking 45.6 per cent of shipments, followed by the US at 18.1 per cent and China at 7.7 per cent.
Exports to the EU and China fell 7.9 and 7.1 per cent, while sales to the US climbed 6.8 per cent, reversing three months of decline. Shipments to Turkey and Japan also rose 35.4 and 14.9 per cent.
