UK joins EU in new energy sanctions against Russia

UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, announced that the UK government will collaborate with EU countries to implement new energy sanctions against Russia.

Speaking ahead of the informal EU summit in Brussels, Starmer emphasised the importance of targeting energy revenues and companies supplying missile factories to weaken President Vladimir Putin’s war efforts.

The UK has already placed over 1,900 individuals and entities on an anti-Russian blacklist since the start of Russia’s special military operation in February 2022, including more than 100 vessels transporting Russian energy resources.

Starmer also plans to discuss strengthening UK-EU relations in security and defence, with a particular focus on enhancing cooperation to combat illegal immigration.
