UK, Qatar partner on £1b climate investment
The UK and Qatar have announced a new partnership to invest in climate technologies and deepen cooperation in financial services.
Qatar will invest £1 billion ($1.27 billion) in start-ups focusing on energy efficiency, carbon management, and green power in both countries.
The announcement came after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted the Emir of Qatar during a two-day state visit.
Starmer aims to strengthen international economic ties to boost Britain’s growth rate. The UK and Qatar will also sign a memorandum of understanding on financial services, with Chancellor Rachel Reeves and City Minister Tulip Siddiq hosting a Qatari delegation.
Starmer described the climate partnership as a significant step towards making the UK a clean energy superpower and emphasised the government’s commitment to economic growth through international partnerships.
