UK trade deficit widens in Q2 ’25
The UK’s total goods and services trade deficit widened by £1.7 billion to £9.2 billion in the second quarter of 2025, driven by a larger rise in imports than in exports, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed on Thursday.
The goods trade deficit grew by £5.8 billion to £61.1 billion, offset partly by a £4.1 billion increase in the services surplus to £51.9 billion.
In June alone, goods imports fell by £1.7 billion, or 3.4 per cent, due to lower trade with both EU and non-EU partners, while goods exports declined more sharply, down £1.9 billion, or 6.3 per cent. Shipments to the United States slumped £0.7 billion, or 14.5 per cent, to their lowest level since February 2022.
