Ukraine wheat shipment for Egypt ‘secure’, looks for new carrier – minister

Egypt’s Minister of Supply Ali Moselhy said on Wednesday that the Ukrainian wheat — purchased by Egypt’s government before the outbreak of the Russian war — is “secure” but needs new safe carrier.

The cargo of around 60,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat was purchased by Egypt’s state grains buyer GASC in a December tender for shipment in February but has been stuck at the Port of Chornomorsk since the Russian war on February 24.

The Ukrainian government as the ministry is looking for a new carrier to transport the shipment and it is just a matter of international legal measures, Moselhy added.

Earlier this week, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly assured that the country’s strategic wheat reserve can cover the domestic consumption for more than seven months.
