UPDATE: President Sisi’s new social support package
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Wednesday a package of measures, including wage and pension rise packages, aimed at easing economic pressures.
- Raising the minimum wage by 50%, to reach EGP6,000 per month.
- Increasing the wages of public servants as well as employees in economic bodies, with a minimum of EGP1,000 to EGP1,200 pounds, depending on grade.
- 10% bonus for those addressed by the Civil Service Law, and 15% for those not addressed, with a minimum of EGP150, at a total cost of EGP11 billion.
- Additional bonus starting from EGP500 for employees at the grade 6, to increase by 50 pounds for each grade, up to EGP900 for the excellent grade, at a total cost of EGP37.5 billion.
- Allocating EGP6 billion to hire 120,000 servants.
The new rules include several wage rise packages, as well as tax exemptions.
