At least ten people have been killed and dozens injured on Saturday after a fire erupted at an unofficial fuel depository used for smuggling in Upper Egypt’s Sohag governorate on the road linking Aswan and Cairo.
Sohag governor Mahmoud Atiq told MENA news agency that the number of fatalities was a preliminary estimate, and at least 30 people were injured.
A security source told Al-Ahram Arabic website that the total number of deaths was ten while 37 people were injured.
Fire engines and ambulances were called to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.
