URGENT: Egypt’s remittances at strongest in 2025, 40% YoY up – CBE

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad surged to a record $41.5 billion in 2025, up 40.5 per cent from a year earlier, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said on Monday. In 2024, inflows stood at around $29.6 billion.

On a monthly basis, transfers increased 24.0 per cent in December 2025 to around $4.0 billion, the highest ever recorded in a single month, up from approximately $3.2 billion in December 2024.

Remittances continued to accelerate in the first half of the 2025/2026 fiscal year (July–December), climbing 29.6 per cent year-on-year to roughly $22.1 billion, compared with $17.1 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Remittances are a vital source of hard currency for Egypt, alongside Suez Canal revenues, tourism and exports, helping to support the country’s external balances.
