URGENT: US CPI-U down 0.1% monthly

The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) fell 0.1 per cent in March, following a 0.2 per cent rise in February, according to data from the US Bureau of Labour Statistics on Thursday.

Over the past 12 months, the CPI increased 2.4 per cent before seasonal adjustment.

Energy prices dropped 2.4 per cent, gasoline down 6.3 per cent. Food prices rose 0.4 per cent, food at home up 0.5 per cent while food away from home jumped 0.4 per cent. Excluding food and energy, the CPI increased 0.1 per cent.

Over the past year, the energy index fell 3.3 per cent, and food prices rose 3.0 per cent.

The CPI for all items less food and energy rose 2.8 per cent over the past 12 months, with shelter rising 4.0 per cent. Over the past month, the shelter index rose 0.2 per cent, while medical care increased by 0.2 per cent.
