US durable goods orders down by 2.2% in Dec ’24

US new orders for manufactured durable goods fell by 2.2 per cent in December to $276.1 billion, marking a $6.3 billion decline, according to the US Census Bureau. This is the fourth decrease in the past five months, following a 2.0 per cent drop in November.

The decline was primarily driven by transportation equipment, which fell by 7.4 per cent, or $6.9 billion, to $86.1 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders rose 0.3 per cent, while orders excluding defence declined by 2.4 per cent.
