The US embassy in Cairo has announced that it will be closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in a statement published on its official website.
Supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi plan to hold 33 marches around Cairo and Giza on Friday under the slogan ‘Egypt against the coup.’
According to the statement, the closure of the embassy in Cairo is a precautionary step to protect employees as well as those visiting the embassy.
The statement also warned US citizens to avoid protests and marches planned for Friday, as well as ongoing pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo.
The Egyptian cabinet on Wednesday announced that it had authorised the interior ministry to disperse the pro-Morsi sit-ins in Giza and Cairo’s Nasr City.
