US farmers overwhelmed by record harvest

Midwestern farmers are facing challenges as they deal with leftover grain from 2023 and a rapid harvest this year. Dry weather is pushing them to store corn outside instead of in bins.

Warm and dry weather in the Corn Belt this autumn accelerated crop maturity, allowing farmers to harvest 47 per cent of the country’s second-largest corn crop by Oct. 13, surpassing the five-year average of 39 per cent, according to US data.
