American conglomerate corporation General Electric (GE) provided Egyptian National Railways with more than 110 locomotives , 80 of which are Evolution Series.
Speaking to Amwal Al Ghad Wednesday, Chairman and CEO for GE North East Africa, covering Egypt, Libya and South Sudan, Ayman Khattab stated that the company provided those locomotives through its joint projects with the Egyptian Railways.
He added that this cooperation contributed to facilitate transporting around 5 million tonnes of goods annually due to GE’s commitment to upgrade all locomotives.
Khattab noted that GE’s strategy for current financial year targets entering new projects in transportation field to develop railways system in addition to providing trains with latest locomotives. This strategy plans to boost volume of goods and number of passengers being transported annually.
General Electric is currently preparing to take part in executing four power plants to enhance Egyptian power grip, the official clarified.
Khattab added that the Egyptian market is now qualified to attract massive investments in both power and transport sectors as pursuant to the legislative environment which is suitable for receiving new capitals.
General Electric plans to capture a number of projects in the Egyptian market in fields of wind and developing railways system through providing General Electric-locomotives.
