U.S. investments in Egypt fall 85.9% in 2015: CAPMAS

U.S. investments in Egypt dropped during the past year by 85.9 percent compared to investments made in 2014, the Egyptian state official statistics agency CAPMAS said on Wednesday.

Trade exchange between the United States and Egypt also tumbled by 10.7 percent in 2015 to record 41.9 billion Egyptian pounds ($4.7 billion), from 46.9 billion pounds.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) further said that Egypt’s imports from the U.S. fell by 11.3 percent in 2015, to reach 33.5 billion pounds compared to 37.8 billion pounds in 2014.

The import of grains ranked the highest among imports from the U.S., however the amount imported declined by 56.7 percent in 2015 compared to 2014.

Egyptian exports to the U.S. picked down by 0.8 percent in 2015 compared to the year before.

Egypt’s export of clothes to the U.S. ranked the highest, registering 5.1 billion pounds in 2015 compared to 5.4 billion pounds marking a 6 percent decrease.

Number of American tourists visiting Egypt increase by 22 percent in 2015 compared to a year earlier. The number of nights spent by tourists also surged by 6.9 percent in 2015.
