Egypt’s Navy Chief Rear Admiral Osama Mounir met Sunday with United States Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jonathan Greenert in Alexandria where they discussed mutual cooperation between the Egyptian navy and US navy, the US embassy in Cairo said.
“These visits provided valuable insight into the operations and focus of the Egyptian navy,” said Greenert on his visit.
Admiral Greenert toured one of the two Fast Missile naval vessels that the US delivered to Egypt in June which are now ready for operational deployment.
Following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, the US announced it would freeze a part of its annual military aid to Egypt, citing doubts over democratic reforms in the country.
In April, the White House decided that it was restoring military aid to Egypt in order to boost Cairo’s ability to combat terrorist threats in the country.
