The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated on Monday a preliminary evaluation of about 150,000 Stellantis vehicles due to reports of engine shutdown problems.
These incidents involve complete engine failure, often accompanied by difficulty in restarting.
The NHTSA has received approximately 80 consumer complaints related to this issue. The affected vehicles include 2022 RAM 1500 pickup trucks and 2022 Jeep Wagoneer SUVs.
Based on the complaints, the engine appears to shutdown unexpectedly, frequently occurring at slow speeds. Additionally, the vehicles may automatically shift into park and engage the emergency brake.
Drivers also reported a malfunction warning light with a battery fault symbol illuminating on the dashboard.
The purpose of the preliminary evaluation is to determine the breadth, frequency, root cause, and potential safety risks associated with this problem.
