U.S. shares opened lower on Wednesday after U.S. retail sales fell in May for a second month, reigniting concern that consumer spending has softened.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.34% fell 40.11 points, or 0.3%, to 12,533.69. The S&P 500 Index SPX -0.46%declined 6.44 points, or 0.5%, to 1,317.74.
The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.37% lost 11.14 points, or 0.4%, to 2,831.93, Market Watch reported.
