US stocks continue to rise midday as initial inflation data comes in cool

US stocks continued surge during Tuesday’s midday E.T. closer to the record levels seen last July before a sharp pullback. This surge is buoyed by this week’s first batch of key US inflation data, the producer price index — a measure of wholesale prices.

At 14:03 ET (18:03 GMT), the Dow Jones rose 337.57 points, or 0.86 per cent, to 39,694.58.

The broader S&P 500 also gained 76.18 points, or 1.43 per cent, to 5,420.57, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose by 357.33 points, or 2.13 per cent, to 17,137.94.
