Valaris DS-12 begins drilling 4 gas wells in Egypt – ministry
The drillship Valaris DS-12 has arrived in Egyptian waters to begin drilling four new gas wells in the Mediterranean for British company BP and Arcius Energy. Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum said on Monday.
The ship will start with one production well and one exploratory well for BP, followed by two exploratory wells for Arqius Energy, the joint venture between BP and the UAE’s ADNOC.
The Ministry of Petroleum said the move reflects growing confidence among major global investors in Egypt’s petroleum sector, supported by incentive measures to expand exploration, development, and gas production. In cooperation with its partners, the ministry plans to drill more than 100 exploratory wells in 2026, alongside development wells in existing fields, to maximise petroleum and gas resources and achieve discoveries.
These exploration activities are a cornerstone for achieving gradual and sustainable growth in domestic production, paving the way for a significant transformation over the next five years.
