Viet Nam’s forestry sector has achieved a record-breaking export turnover of an estimated $17.3 billion in 2024, representing a substantial 19.4 per cent year-on-year growth, according to a statement by the Forestry Department.
In December alone, exports of timber and wood products reached $1.55 billion, a six per cent increase compared to the previous month and a 15.8 per cent increase year-on-year, the statement added.
Wood products contributed $1.1 billion in December, up 7.5 per cent from November and 15.5 per cent year-on-year. Total forestry product export turnover in December is estimated at $1.68 billion.
Of the total $17.3 billion in forestry exports for the year, timber and wood products accounted for $16.3 billion, with non-wood forestry products making up the remaining portion.
“Export turnover for timber and wood products in 2024 increased by 21 per cent compared to 2023”, said Director of the Forestry Department, Trần Quang Bảo. The sector’s trade surplus is expected to reach an impressive $14.4 billion.
