Vietnam plans to subsidise electricity prices for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of its broader strategy to promote EV usage and meet its energy transition goals.
The subsidy scheme is expected to be submitted to the central government for approval by mid-September. This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Currently, the country has over 150,000 EV charging ports, primarily operated by local EV maker VinFast.
The government is also working on incentives for EV production, imports, and encouraging users to transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to EVs. Additionally, a unified set of technical standards for EV charging stations is set to be issued by the end of this month.
