Vietnam’s retail sales surge 9.4% in 2 months

Vietnam’s total retail sales and consumer service revenues in the first two months of the current year surged by 9.4 per cent year-on-year to over 1.1 quadrillion Vietnamese dong ($43 billion), as reported by local media citing the General Statistics Office.

Vietnam’s retail sales rose 8.7 per cent to 878.4 trillion dong ($34.3 billion), driven by growth in cultural and educational items (15.9 per cent), food and foodstuffs (9.9 per cent), garment and textile (9 per cent), and home appliances (6.8 per cent).

In two months, restaurant and accommodation revenues reached 131.1 trillion dong (over $5.1 billion), a 12.5 per cent increase, while tourism revenues were 14.1 trillion dong ($551.7 million), up 16.4 per cent, according to the office.
