Volvo revs up EV charging with Breathe Battery tech
Volvo Cars announced on Tuesday an investment in the UK-based startup Breathe Battery Technologies, to utilise the startup’s battery software to reduce the charging time of its upcoming electric vehicles (EV) by 30 per cent, Reuters reported, citing statements from both companies.
Volvo Cars has invested an undisclosed amount in Breathe, aiming to implement its technology in new Volvo EVs within two to three years.
The investment is seen as a step towards reducing customer pain points and positioning Volvo as a pioneer in the industry.
Breathe’s algorithm-based charging software, which provides detailed health data on individual battery cells, allows EVs to charge faster while ensuring safety.
Breathe is also working on adapting its battery durability software, currently used in 27 Oppo smartphone models, for EV batteries. The startup is collaborating with several top-tier brands, including Volvo.
