Wall Street’s fear gauge hits 4-year high
The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), commonly known as Wall Street’s fear gauge – spiked to 50 on Monday morning E.T, marking its highest level since 2020.
The last time the VIX recorded that level outside of the pandemic was the Great Financial Crisis, in 2008.
A barometer of investor anxiety, the VIX is tied to the S&P 500 and assesses how investors react to the recent string of economic data, which showed a sharp downturn in the US economy.
