Washington welcomes resumption of Yemen’s Sanaa and Egypt’s Cairo flights
Washington has on Wednesday welcomed the resumption of flight between Sanaa, Yemen, and Cairo, Egypt, according to a statement of the U.S. Department of State.
The resumption allows more Yemenis to ask about the medical care, continue educational opportunities, and to be with loved ones from across Egypt’s diverse Yemeni diaspora community,
The United States applaudd the efforts of Egypt’s government to enable these flights, in parallel with governments of Yemen and Saudi Arabia. It also affirmed its substantial support for the efforts of UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg, and its joint work that has brought about the most significant progress toward peace in years.
“While we are encouraged by the resumption of flights from Sana’a and expanded flow of fuel into northern Yemen, there is much more work needed to improve the freedom of movement of people and goods inside Yemen, particularly to the city of Taiz, where hundreds of thousands of Yemenis have suffered for far too long.” U.S. Department of State statement read.
