A 43-year-old woman died from bird flu in Upper Egypt on Friday afternoon, reported Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website.
Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Hamid, the undersecretary of the health ministry in Assuit, said in a media statement that the woman died at the Assiut Chest Hospital. She was admitted two days ago.
The unnamed woman is the third person to die from bird flu this year, as well as the second woman from Assiut to do so.
Last year, 11 Egyptians died from the disease.
Most cases of bird flu in Egypt have been in rural areas where villagers tend to raise poultry in their homes, increasing exposure to infected birds.
