Egypt’s Orascom Construction and Belgian-French construction company BESIX, have built the world’s first suspended obelisk at the Grand Egyptian Museum, according to Orascom’s tweet on Tuesday.
This architectural masterpiece depicts a unique blend of the ancient Egyptian civilisation and modern architectural techniques. It also allows visitors to admire King Ramses II’s cartridges, which have been hidden for almost 3,500 years.
The obelisk is suspended on four steel columns that ensure stability and are covered by engraved stones. The suspended obelisk reflects “the genius of Egyptian design from past, present, and future,” Orascom added in its statement.
