Xpress Telecom Lawsuit To Proceed – Regulator

AMMAN — The government will proceed with a lawsuit against XPress Telecommunications until its outstanding debts are paid, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission ( TRC ).

All of the company’s assets in the country have been seized, TRC Chief Commissioner Mohammad Taani told reporters on Thursday, but the company still owes the government about JD6.1 million.

“XPress has not paid the government anything yet,” he said.

In January, the TRC revoked the licence of XPress Telecommunications and asked the company to provide financial guarantees that it would pay its outstanding debt to the government, but no payments were made, according to the TRC .according to zawya.

XPress, which stopped providing services in 2011 due to financial difficulties, announced earlier this year that it was about to conclude a deal with an investor to resume operations.

“The company was warned several times, but then we filed the lawsuit and seized its assets to ensure the money the company owes the government is paid,” Taani said.

In late 2010, the company said it was in difficult financial circumstances and submitted a request for restructuring in order to attract a new investor so that it could continue to operate in the local market.
