Egypt’s Zamalek president Mortada Mansour talked about his side’s loss in the Egypt Super Cup and why he believes they lost.
The Whites suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to league champions Al Ahly in the Egypt Super Cup, marking Al Ahly’s 11th Super Cup trophy.
Zamalek had a rough start to the game as they conceded their first goal just 19 minutes in. Hussein El-Shahat then scored the Reds’ second to end a disappointing first-half for the Egypt Cup champions.
The second-half seemed no different than the first 45 minutes as Junior Ajayi put the nail in the coffin with a goal in the 48th minute. Zamalek centre-back Mahmoud Alaa then went on to score a brace from the penalty spot but it wasn’t enough for the Whites to come back into the game.
Following the match, Zamalek president Mortada Mansour talked about the defeat and said that the starting lineup was the main reason for the loss.
“We lost due to a mistake in the starting lineup,” Mansour told Al Hadath TV channel.
“Obama needs rest and to stop participating. I don’t know if it’s football saturation or exhaustion are the cause of his current form.
“This isn’t the Ferjani Sassi we know. He needs a moment alone. Maybe he’s not happy with something.
“I’m not sad because of the defeat. You [Micho] learn from your mistakes, now the Super Cup is over and now we have to focus on what’s coming.
“If Micho had started the game with the same lineup as the second-half, things would’ve been different. But “if” it is the devil’s work, we can’t use it in football.
“I will have a meeting with Micho on Saturday to see his point of view and talk with the players.
“I want to congratulate Al Ahly and their fans. The most important thing is that the supporters were able to attend the game with no issues,” he concluded.
The Whites will kick-off their league campaign next Monday September 23 when they face Ittihad of Alexandria at 8pm local time.
