Zambia’s annual inflation rate for July 2024 increased to 15.4 per cent, up from 15.2 per cent in June 2024. This rise reflects an average price increase of 15.4 per cent for goods and services between July 2023 and July 2024, primarily driven by higher food prices.
Food inflation surged to 17.4 per cent from 16.8 per cent the previous month, with significant price hikes observed in bread, cereals, fish, vegetables, fruit, eggs, cooking oil, and sugar.
Conversely, non-food inflation declined to 12.6 per cent from 13.0 per cent, due to decreases in prices for major household appliances, pharmaceutical products, fuels, and air passenger transport.
