ZTE to begin local manufacturing of telecom equipment, establish 5G training labs in Egypt
Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ZTE to establish local manufacturing of telecommunications equipment in the country. This includes the manufacturing of fixed network stations and optical fiber products.
Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed the signing ceremony while taking part in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit in Beijing.
The agreement will see ZTE begin local production of communication terminals and optical network distribution products, such as fiber optic cables and distribution boxes, in Egypt. This initiative aims to contribute to the growth of Egypt’s technology industry and enhance its export capabilities in the Middle East and North Africa region.
ZTE will also establish two advanced training labs equipped with 5G and optical fiber technologies (GPON). Over the next three years, these labs will offer both theoretical and practical training to 1,200 trainees in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), building a skilled workforce to support Egypt’s digital transformation.
ZTE’s local manufacturing and creation of 5G training labs will significantly boost Egypt’s ambitions to become a regional leader in telecommunications and digital infrastructure.
