Italy grants Egypt’s CAPMAS 190 tablets for 2016 census

Italian Development Cooperation Office granted 190 tablets worth more than 1.7 million Egyptian pounds (US$191,487 thousands ) to Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS Head Abu Bakr El-Gendy, asserted that the new tablets would be used in population Census for housing and establishment in 2016.

El-Gendy stated that  Minutes of Delivery was inked by CAPMAS Advisor for International Cooperation, Omar Mukhtar and Marco Platzer – Development Cooperation Office Director at Italian embassy.

CAPMAS cooperation with the Italian side started in February 2015 in coordination with Egyptian international cooperation ministry, the head added.

He clarified that this cooperation comes among the framework of international expertise supporting statistical system in Egypt, notably in the field of technical support for the Census through the support of the Italian side in supplying  tablets to be used in the census.

Census is conducted every ten years and the last census was made in 2006.

Chairman El-Gendy noted that 2016 census would be totally conducted electronically using latest technology methods, i.e. tablets connected to internet.
