The Museum of Modern Egyptian Art is Egypt’s main modern art museum that hold collection of early 20th century contemporary art pioneers.
The museum includes works of artists like Mahmoud Said, Gazbeya Sirry, Ragheb Ayad, Abdel Hadi Al-Gazzar, and others.
The museum was established in 1927 and is part of the Zamalek National Cultural Centre.
The museum holds more than 13,000 paintings and sculptures depicting the development of the Egyptian art movement from the early 20th century.
The first floor contains oil paintings, while the second floor includes a Taha Hussein portrait by George Bahgoury, as well as the Engy Aflaton Museum.
Aflaton was an Egyptian artist who embodied the social injustice of the poor in over 1,000 paintings.
The museum’s opening hours are every day from 10am to 4pm except Mondays and Fridays, at the Cairo Opera House grounds.
The museum closed down in 2015 for 6 years, and reopened for visitors by December 2020.
