German IFE signs deal with Egypt’s Nahdet Misr to establish Ta’heal International Academy
German-government backed Facility Investing for Employment (IFE) signed on Monday a grant agreement Egypt’s Nahdet Misr Group to launch Ta’heal International Academy with a €7.06 million investment.
The project that involves the Egyptian Network for Employment Promotion (NEP), aims to support public-private collaboration through creating 3,300 jobs, said Steffen Kuhl, the managing director of IFE.
IFE has pledged to finance 50 percent of these investments, which amounts to €3.53 million, while Nahdet Misr will fund the remaining half.
Furthermore, the agreement was signed in the presence of Mohamed Megahed, Deputy Minister of Education and Technical Education, and Holger Illi, Head of German Development Cooperation.
Under this agreement, Nahdet Misr will begin converting the “Begam Training Center” in Shubra Al-Khaimah into the Ta’heal International Academy.
In cooperation with the NEP, this will be a comprehensive educational and training institution, including a vocational school, training center, entrepreneurship center, and employment office.
The academy will be managed and operated in accordance with international standards, meanwhile, the academy will provide internationally accredited technical study programmes.
It also will offer diplomas in more than 12 fields across four core sectors: industrial, tourism and hospitality, construction and building, and information technology and communication.
Moreover, the academy offers a wide array of vocational training programmes in different technical fields to prepare young people with job market skills and improve the proficiency of the Egyptian workforce in key technical sectors as per international standards.
Also, the academy’s employment center will connect students and trainees with real-world job opportunities in leading companies during their studies and will offer quality job opportunities post-graduation within Egypt.
Illi said that Egypt’s economy needs to create between 800,000 to one million new jobs annually to accommodate the younger generation.
He emphasised that for the private sector to expand and generate employment, Egypt must accelerate its structural reforms and establish a fair business environment.
Illi further added that the state’s role is to set up conditions that enable markets to operate and businesses to compete productively.
Kuhl also said that investing in education is a crucial step towards societal development and sustainability. Despite Egypt having the largest system for technical education and vocational training in the region, it faces many challenges.
“Therefore, the Facility provided support to partners in establishing the Ta’heal International Academy, which is expected to change the landscape of technical training in Egypt,” Kuhl added.
He also continued, “the financial grant provided by IFE, amounting to 3.53 million euros, will be directed towards facility renovations, construction, equipment for technical workshops, modern technological tools, e-learning systems, and a comprehensive quality management system for the academy.”
Meanwhile, Dalia Ibrahim, CEO of Nahdet Misr Publishing House and founder of Ta’heal for VET Skills, said that the support from the Facility Investing for Employment, with Nahdet Misr’s investments, marks a significant leap in enhancing technical education and vocational training in Egypt.
She highlighted that Nahdet Misr, in partnership with the NEP, has formed agreements with partners eager to offer training opportunities to academy students or employ its graduates.
Ibrahim further elaborated that the new academy is a milestone in Nahdet Misr’s ongoing efforts, since its establishment in 1938, to improve education and particularly technical education.
She also emphasising the importance of technical education in stimulating the nation’s economy, fostering community development, and promoting sustainability. As Nahdet Misr is committed to collaborating with its partners to realise this vision.
