URGENT: Egyptian govt. raises subsidised bread price
Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced that the government will raise the price of subsidised bread from EGP 0.05 to EGP 0.20, effective June 1st, 2024.
In televised press conference, the Prime Minister stated that the decision aims to address the budget deficit. He added that the price of the subsidised bread had not been changed for the last three decades.
Egypt has been providing subsidised staple foods to its most vulnerable citizens for decades.
