Ukraine receives $800m US aid for energy infrastructure
Ukraine will receive $800 million in aid from the US to support repairs of its heavily damaged energy infrastructure, following nearly two years of Russian airstrikes.
The announcement was made by Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s first deputy prime minister, during a visit to Washington.
The funds will be used for essential equipment to restore power facilities, which have suffered extensive damage. Government estimates suggest that around 50 per cent of Ukraine’s pre-war power generation capacity has been affected by Russian attacks.
The aid comes amid reports that Kyiv is considering the dismissal of Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, head of Ukrenergo, due to dissatisfaction with the state of power protection.
Andriy Yermak, chief of Ukraine’s presidential office, emphasised the importance of US support in the urgent restoration of the country’s energy infrastructure.
