Egypt c. bank denies issuing new EGP 200 notes

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) categorically denied on Tuesday the issuance of a new 200 Egyptian Pound note dated October 8, 2024.

In a statement, the CBE clarified that images circulating on social media platforms depicting such a note are fabricated and that the serial number on the counterfeit note corresponds to a previous issue from 2023.

The central bank urged media outlets and social media users to verify information from official sources before sharing it. It emphasised the importance of responsible reporting to avoid spreading misinformation that could harm the banking sector and the national economy.
