Egypt’s wheat production falls 5.8% in ’22/’23 – CAPMAS

Egypt’s wheat production reached 9.1 million tons during the 2022/2023 agricultural year, marking a 5.8 per cent decline from the previous year, mainly due to a 7.4 per cent reduction in the cultivated area.

Egypt’s wheat production faced a setback during the 2022/2023 agricultural year, reaching 9.1 million tons, as per a data from the CAPMAS on Wednesday. This represents a 5.8 per cent decline compared to the previous year, primarily attributed to a reduction in the cultivated area.

As a result of this decrease, Egypt’s per capita wheat consumption slipped to 155.4 kilograms in 2022/2023, down from 165.0 kilograms in the previous year.

In contrast, global wheat production experienced a positive trend, reaching 806.6 million tons in 2022/2023. This marks a 3.6 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Consequently, the average amount of wheat consumed per person worldwide rose from 67.7 kilograms in 2021/2022 to 70.2 kilograms in 2022/2023.
