Egypt’s presidency will hold a press conference on Sunday afternoon to reveal the details of interim President Adly Mansour’s meeting with a number of political parties and figures, due to take place early Sunday.
The meeting, which will be held at the Ittihadiya presidential palace, comes in the wake of a number of meetings between political forces and presidential media adviser Ahmed El-Muslimany. The current situation in Egypt and future prospects will be discussed.
Sunday’s meeting will be attended by representatives of the Wafd Party, the Constitution Party, the Conference Party, the Popular Current, the Rebel Campaign, the Nasserist Party, the Nour Party, the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Front Party, the Arab Party for Justice and Equality, and the Popular Alliance Party.
The Salafist Nour Party, to be represented by party head Younes Makhioun, will be the only Islamist party in attendance.
The press conference will be chaired by presidential spokesman Ihab Badawy.
Interim President Mansour, head of the High Constitutional Court, was appointed to the presidency following the popularly-backed ouster of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July.
The Muslim Brotherhood – the group from which Morsi hails – and its Islamist allies have refused reconciliation talks until what they describe as a ‘military coup’ is reversed.
