Egyptian security forces found the body of a decapitated man in North Sinai on Friday, one of several victims who had been beheaded of late in the turmoil-hit peninsula.
AFP reported that the corpse, belonging to a 35-year-old local man, was found in Sheikh Zuweid city.
At least six civilians were abducted and later found decapitated in North Sinai in August.
Sinai-based militant group Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis claimed responsibility for killing four of the men.
It released a video online showing the beheading of the four, accusing them of providing information that helped an Israeli drone strike kill three of the group’s fighters in July.
For over a year, Egypt’s army has been waging a major offensive against Islamic insurgents mainly in North Sinai.
Army forces have targeted militant hideouts with helicopters and ground troops, killing dozens in recent months.
However, news reports have surfaced recently claiming that civilians too have been caught in the crossfire.
