Police Conscript ‘Seriously Injured’ By Explosion In Rafah

A police conscript sustained serious facial injuries after an explosive device went off during confrontations with militants on the outskirts of the restive city of Rafah in Sinai.

Abdel-Rahman Ahmed, 22, was hospitalised in a critical condition, reported Al-Ahram’s Arabic site.

Sinai has been beset by militant attacks by local jihadist groups in recent years.

Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, attacks against security forces have intensified, killing hundreds of police and military personnel and injuring scores more.
