Sisi warns of Libya chaos, talks terrorism and economic ties with Greece’s Tsipras

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi called on the international community to intervene in stopping the flow of fighters, money and weapons to Libya via sea and land borders.

The president said at a Tuesday press conference with Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras that Egypt is doing its role but one or two countries cannot combat this phenomenon.

“I warned about the development of the situations in Syria and Iraq two years ago, but we were late in facing them. I am warning now against not facing the situation in Libya. This is a very dangerous matter,” El-Sisi said.

Meanwhile, the Greek prime minister praised what Egypt achieved on its road to economic development.

He said that a business delegation visited the Arab country recently and felt a positive change in investments as well as the promising opportunities and great potential of the Egyptian market.

Both heads of states also highlighted the special ties between the two countries. Tsipras said that both Egypt and Greece have ancient cultures that make it easier for both countries to understand and stand by each other.

“Following the 30 July revolution, the West could not understand what was happening in the country, and Greece along with Italy and Cyprus were speaking on behalf of Egypt and attempting to explain the situation to European countries,” he said.

A tripartite summit is scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Athens between the leaders of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt.

This is the third meeting between the three countries this year, with the two prior meetings taking place in Egypt and Cyprus and involving discussions on ways to combat terrorism, economic projects as well as the global refugee crisis.
